La Plataforma to Circo de Gredos, Laguna Grande and Refugio Elola

Duration: app. 4 – 5  hrs there and back

Ascent: app. 200 ms with descent app. 700 ms.

Start from carpark of the Plataforma following stoned path by the Chiringuito at North end. In the winter this path is usually iced over – alternative path details below.

 The stoned path starts climbing quite steeply as it follows the Garganta de Prao Puerto. It is then signed to the Laguna Grande to the right. As it levels you will see the Refugio de Reguero Llano to your right as it crosses the Prado de las Pozas and the Rio de las Pozas. It then climbs again steeply, zigzagging. Shortly after passing the fuente the path levels again and you will get your first view of the peaks of the Circo de Gredos. The Risco de los Barrerones to your right as you head towards the viewpoint and information board. The path then descends to the Laguna Grande and the Refugio de Elola.

Winter – alternative path leaves from west side of carpark climbing up the stream, cairned, cross the stream further up towards the Refugio de Reguero Llano. Cross the Prado beyond the refuge and heading south. Pick up the main path crossing Prado de las Pozas before it crosses the Rio de las Pozas.
